Service design is the process of planning and organizing all the parts of a service, like people, tools, and processes, to create a smooth and enjoyable experience for the user. It involves designing how a service works from start to finish to ensure it meets the needs of both customers and service providers.

Before Jumping into our project let’s understand what exactly a service design is!

As a part of our primary research we conducted Interviews of Elderly target audience to collect their qualitative data & Focus group study to analyze the young target group.

Upon analyzing the research data we worked on defining the main problem area by attempting to empathize with the user in the current scenario.

Parents often find themselves alone when their children move abroad for work or education, increasing the need for support on a daily basis.

The growing elderly population creates social, financial, and health system challenges, particularly with the rise of chronic diseases.

Fewer children per family, more women in the workforce, and urbanization are driving the need for increased focus on geriatric issues.

The shift from joint to nuclear families leaves many elders without traditional support, often in need of care.

Youth volunteering in India thrives through independent efforts, community involvement, and formal settings like corporate foundations and NGOs.

Young adults respect and admire the elderly, valuing their wisdom and life experiences, fostering mutual learning and empathy.

Only 1.5% of India’s population is engaged in volunteering, according to a 2018 Ministry of Statistics report.

Volunteering helps youth feel connected to their community and understand their place in society.

Elderly Audience :

This group consists of individuals aged above 70, who stay on their own and require help in small daily chores.

Younger Audience :

The younger audience aged between 17- 23, that is keen on being a part of community service and looking for some income source as well.

Indians aged 60 and older will rise from 91.6 million in 2010 158.7 million by 2025.

Significant rise in nuclear families culture which leaves the elderly’s alone through out the day.

All current services are focused more on elderly heath care as a long term assistance.

Individual elderly’s are dependent on neighbors & community for help, developing feeling of helplessness.

We categorized the discussion into 4 parts which included asking about Willingness of the audience in community service, What motivates them to do community service, their participation in community services & experience, Need of youngsters doing community service in India

7 participants took part in the study who were from 17-23 age group from different Tier 1 & Tier 2 cities.

Elders above the age of 70 face difficulties in execution of smaller tasks in their day to day life. They do not receive timely assistance whenever needed, this triggers the feeling of helplessness. While younger audience willing to volunteer do not receive good opportunities and a platform to address the same. Bridging the gap between the elders and young volunteers to address their needs and create an impact is a must.

Moving Forward to develop phase we identified multiple important components for this service & brain stormed ideas as a part of our solution ideation phase.

What are the

Proposed Solutions?

Considering the current condition, there would be a drastic change in the upcoming years which demands adaptability within the service. The expansion of the age group to 35-40 would create a more scope of volunteers in the future. It is observed that serval NGO’s and Old age homes struggle to get enough volunteers. Inclusion of these services within the ecosystem would create a wider scope of Inclusive community.
